rant – black pants

I have just returned from the mall. I bought a dress which is actually a summer dress (why it was in store at this cold time of year I do not know). It is pretty and floral and floaty. Yay! Here is a little picture from City Chic

Buying a dress was not really part of my agenda for todays shopping activities. My one and only pair of black pants have just about died on me and I was meant to replace them. They are a lovely pair with somewhat floaty fabric with wide legs. I love wide legs pants. So comfy.

So….I tried on so many pairs and I just. couldn’t. find. any. How hard can it be?

Black pants are a staple item in most peoples wardrobes – half the ones I tried on didn’t even have belt loops – I don’t even know why they make pants without belt loops. Who can wear them? It was either the lack of belt loops or they were odd shaped. High Rise. Legs miles too long. I am genetically blessed(?) with short legs so boot cuts don’t really do it for me as when I take them up most of the flare comes off with it. Straight leg (not my thing) or just weird. The only pair I did find that were decent fit were brown and I have nothing that goes with brown – mainly tried on for fit purposes and I did search in vain for a black pair the same. SIGH. By the time I was finished in one store I was too pooped and pissed off to continue in another store.

RANT RANT.

One of my last purchases before the credit cards went the way of the freezer.

top shop

I loved shopping at Top Shop when I was living in the UK. Coming from Australia where high street fashion is lacking (though it is improving now) it was such a change to find somewhat edgy affordable fashion. I missed the shop a lot when I moved back to Australia. Finding out that TopShop ship here (!!!) made my day and I have had my eyes glued to the shop since which is bad for my wallet but more than okay for me. The exchange rate is not that bad at the moment and I am pretty sure that shipping doesnt go up and down depending on how much you order. I ordered these two weeks ago and they arrived a couple days ago. I love that new clothes feeling!

10 things for the weekend…

Saw this on the lovely Australian crafty blog Meet me at Mikes. What a great idea. I am a bandit for making lists!

10 things I am going to do this weekend in no particular order…

1. Food shopping – I have been making an effort to buy local produce at my nearest markets lately. So much better for the environment and it tastes SO much better than the stuff you buy in the big supermarkets that is it worth paying that tiny bit extra. Support your local farmers!

2. My floordrobe is taking over my bedroom and I can’t actually really make it to my craft desk in the spare room. I really should get on that…

3. Making a necklace from this tutorial from the fab blog by the Glamourai.

4. Inglorious Basterds. I love QT.

5. Going to the opening of the new Belconnen Arts Centre. Music and fun!

6. I have been reading Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk. It is pretty wacky in the best way possible.

7. Seeing my lovely boyf <3

8. Visit my local sewing store for fabrics and patterns. Spring is finally here and I want to make some cute skirts to get ready!

9.  I bought a Holga camera weeks ago (see here) Am going to go exploring!

10. Sleeping in. My favourite Sunday morning activity.

melbourne adventures….august

How time flies! This week has been absolutely madhouse. Had a great time in Melbourne over the weekend (before last). I flew in on Friday and had lunch in the city, before trekking into Myer (it is a madhouse rabbit hole in there normally let alone with all the construction at the moment).

Saturday I spent getting in the way of stroller ladies at the National Gallery of Victoria for the exhibition ‘Liquid Desire: Salvador Dali’. It was an amazing exhibit, a really great collection of mediums. Lunch at Lorca, then lunch dessert at Little Cupcakes. Saturday afternoon was spent wandering down Gertrude Street and Smith Street and a mini stint down Brunswick Street. Curry on Saturday night and then a lazy Eggs Benedict breakfast on Sunday before flying home in the afternoon.

Always sad to leave Melbourne. Of course, as always I came back full of delicious food, sore feet and with a few stowaways in my luggage…

I found this adorable clutch purse which is designed by Missy Mao Mao (Marilyn Cardinal) a local Melbourne designer. I love supporting local designers and I really love this clutch. I can’t wait to take it out for drinks.

Missy Mao Mao Clutch

I bought the clutch in a great little store on Degraves Street (in the subway bit) called the cats meow The Cats Meow. I am forever looking for cute items to attempt to tame the mess on my head called hair and I found these cute bobby pins in the same shop! I love nautical inspired items.

till next time xx
