just a minute – august

Listening… Gorillaz, Air, Daft Punk, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Phoenix

Reading… zines from Bird in the Hand Zine Shop, more specifically

and of course news websites and political commentary blogs regarding the hung parliament here in Australia (yes I am a nerd).

Watching… Mad Men Season 4, West Wing season 7, Q & A, Inception

Buying… a house! YES! IT IS ALL MINE! and really, stuff to go in it. Going to make this place mine! Bento boxes – I love accesorising life and lunch box eating. Kester Black items. Dresses from Bravissimo

Wanting… a shiny rice cooker, breadmaker, summer dresses, cute flats

Trying… not to procrastinate unpacking. I really loathe unpacking. To stay on the gym going track. Keeping on with the healthy eating – it’s a lifestyle change NOT a diet.

Loving… having my own place, my boyfriend for putting up with my roller coaster emotions on this life transition and letting me stay with him, online shopping,

Planning… meals! Using a bento/meal planner from Just Bento. I am starting to get into Bento lunch boxes and since it is so much easier doing the bulk of the preparation on the night before and making great use of the freezer on the weekend meal planning is something that I am finding will help cut down the amount of waste (I don’t have huge amounts, enough to feeling bad about it).

As now I am officially at the mercy of the Reserve Bank of Australia and another bank I have to be a bit more budget conscious. I guess I also want to waste less and be more mindful of what I am eating so planning things in advance will save a bunch of time and impulse buying at the supermarket harder to justify.

Writing… lists mostly. August was a very busy month of errand type things to do. List making is so awesome. Something so satisfying about crossing things off! I also just downloaded a new app for my iphone called Teux Deux. It so sleek and stylish and simple. Love it!

Also uni started back yesterday so have been busy taking notes over the weekend to get a head start.  I have a heavier load than last study period so need to keep on top of things (famous last words….but I will try to keep on top of things).

Inspired by… the warmer weather, cherry blossoms, the colour red

I am in!

I have moved in! It is  still a bit box city at my place right now (I am hopeless at unpacking) but that will change over the week I am hoping. I am so glad though. I love the flat! No internet yet so I have to be content with blogging during my lunch break at work (super professional I know) or from my boyfriends house for a bit while my ISP gets it together.  Hopefully back on board soon.

new house!

Finally I have a house! All settled without a hitch this afternoon! I got the keys this morning (thanks goodness my real estate agent could negotiate this). SO exciting!

It’s a two bedroom apartment, 15 minute drive from my work (and Parliament House), 20 minutes from the city centre of Canberra and very close to the local town centre. It needs a bit of TLC but I don’t think there was much in my price range that didn’t really.

The paint colour is a bit odd. I know some people like eggshell…but I don’t. The curtains that are white-ish can probably stay. I really dislike the pink curtains. These are all things I will probably change as I go. I would like some better light fittings too.

Anyway I have some pictures.  I would like to note that trying to get decent shots of this apartment made me appreciate just what decent real estate photographers do.  I don’t think I did the apartment justice and my camera is a bit shit… but anyway…

lounge

The lounge area is quite large for an apartment.  It is quite open plan so the dining room will fit in the same room.  Opens on to a nice little balcony too which is big enough for some chairs and a little table for G & Ts in summer!

and after the jump there is…

What Ken Be Done?

I love this blog. It is like an explosion of colour and JOY. While I may not be a big colour wearer myself I can certainly appreciate it and Ken Done. The Social Studio is such a fantastic idea and a GREAT cause.

I ordered these two beauties a week or so ago after spotting them in Frankie.
They arrived in my mail box a few days ago and I am so so so chuffed.

Distraction

With settlement date looming (FRIDAY) I am very nervous. I will not go into details but the seller is making things a little bit tricky and inconvenient for me and I am hoping nothing goes terribly wrong and falls apart. I know it should be fine but I will worry anyway.

I have been trying to channel all my nervous energy into gym going and not into CARBS. My boyfriend is also away this week which means the temptation to misbehave foodwise is stronger than ever.

Argh give me strength (and let me avoid the temptation to distract myself with my bank account).

nerding out political style….

I completely binged on the election on the weekend. Interesting times. I think both major parties kinda got what they deserved. Labor went too far right and alienated the left, Coalition was standard conservative (more right than normal conservative though). So Australia decided =  stuff the both of you and we are now in hung parliament/minority government territory.

Two of the independents seem quite switched on and then there is…Bob ‘bananas’ Katter who seems a bit unpredictable but will be a suitable comedic replacement for Wilson Tuckey. Plus another potential independent, a country national and a green parliamentarians.

Kinda exciting to have additional checks and balances in legislation and a possible move away from the cult of personality type elections which seem to becoming quite the thing. I am a bit worried that all these checks and balances might hold up legislation that could really move Australia forward in all ways not just whatever was thrown at swing voters. Exciting times!

*nerding out = off…maybe*

voted!

Voting?

Done! Voting is awesome in Australia Of course I think one party is better than another. I think this is the first time my life will be affected by a result though. Kinda scary!
