Phew did a lot this weekend!

♥I bought some yarn and some new needles to knit these wee guys bu Jake Henzler. Great beginner project I think! Though am not a complete beginner but I only ever really got around to knitting long rectangles aka. scarf!

Little & Friends

♥I restrung these opshop necklaces. Learnt the hard way that you should serioulsy consider doing this before wearing them out in public. Yes no matter how pretty they are. Though I did alter the white and navy one to make it longer. It drapes beautifully now!

♥Started reading this…

Valley of the Dolls

♥Had lunch with my lovely mother outside in the fresh air of my garden (with some gnomes)

♥Did a MASSIVE clean out of my room. It is looking much nicer now and I actually want to spend time in here.

I think when I was first told I had to wear glasses I was pretty upset but now after 4 or so years I have grown to love them. I kind of think of them as a signature style item and change every couple of years to a new style and can completely change the way your face looks. I have thought about getting contacts but the thought of it still makes me squicky (I will grow up one day I promise).

I changed prescription recently and have gone for a more nerdy look that I am used to and bought these lovely Burberry frames. They just arrived the other day I love them!

no more play and back to work…

I have been back at work now for almost two weeks. I think I forgot just how much I love not having to go to work. I think I should take leave more often!

Sales are generally not that exciting here in Canberra town. I know some of the sale stock I did see was stuff I had seen on sale racks previously. Kinda disappointing! So I didn’t really frequent the sales much during my break but I did pick up this practical handbag that can carry pretty much anything I want from French Connection. FCUK Bag

Was marked down 50% – score! Though I normally prefer smaller ones, I liked this one because it was a useful size and part of my goal this year is to take more photos and I can actually fit any of my bulky manual cameras in it.

As for taking pictures, not going too badly. It is hard to find inspiration shuffling to and from work and the gym during the week. The forecast looks good for this weekend so I should be able to go for a walk and finish some film off. I love my Holga. Really starting to get the hang of it now. There is something exciting about getting film developed. I think digital cameras make people lazy. I am also looking forward to my new camera arriving soon. A Smena from Russian deadstock. Woo!

two zero one zero – new year aspirations…

I don’t know how many new years resolutions I have broken over the years. I am not the biggest fan. I think I have been able to make bigger changes in my life when I am actually resolved to do so, rather than rely on a new year. I guess it works for some people though! I have been pondering this the past month as I have been on the cusp of change for a little while so here are the areas of my life that I am resolving to change for the better.

Sustainability

Have slowly and surely been making changes to the products and food I buy to consider what is best for the environment. Limiting my meat consumption and only buying meat from local farmers and vegies from local farmers. Alternative menstrual products (go go diva cup). Using recycled paper where possible (including toilet paper). Switching to green power. Re-using and re-fashioning old items. Buying less new. It’s an ongoing process but baby steps makes things easier and knowing that I am doing positive things for the environment is a good feeling. I think I need to remain firm on the changes and only do that. It is hard sometimes to avoid the convenience of food from a supermarket (especially if you are busy) but I think having some more discipline and planning so I don’t have to make a trip down there will make that easier.

Health

Still on my epic weight loss. Slow and steady wins the race and keeps the weight off? Am going to continue my gym classes and session with my personal trainer (because sometimes i just can’t trust myself to push myself hard enough). I feel so much healthier so I have to keep up that momentum. Also working on my confidence and silencing the critic within!

Fashion/Style

Continue purging wardrobe of clothes too big so I have no excuse to get bigger again. Branch out a little with styles. Take more risks. Thrift more. Sew more (see point below)

Photography/Creative/Craft/Art

Be more creative. I might have to schedule time in for myself each fortnight or week but I really miss doing stuff but it seems to be the first thing to go. Making time for this will help my stress levels so much, not to mention having fun new things to wear/look at/experiment with. Also, blogging more!

Debt free

Enough said really. Bad debt. Life hindering debt. I hope by the middle of the year at the very least so I can start planning adventures again!

wish me luck ♥

bah humbug (or merry xmas to some)

Christmas has always been a very casual affair in my family I guess being brought up by an atheist and an agnostic will do that for you! We would normally rise early for present opening. Fix a cup of coffee. Open presents. Have breakfast (croissants) and then set about our day relaxing and hiding from the scorching summer heat outside. Lunch would be a cold affair with leg of ham and summer fruits and a glass of champagne (or fruit juice) or even a nice cold beer. Present giving was easy and practical. I love buying things for other people but never knew what to tell people to get for myself (due to bad impulse shopping habits I normally buy anything I want)

This year I will be heading down to spend christmas with my boyfriends family in Melbourne. It is a bit nerve-wracking for me as I haven’t met his family (apart from one very weird awkward meeting of his younger sister) but I know christmas for them is a much more formal affair with the whole roast she-bang! At any rate it should be different and perhaps restore some of the Xmas spirit in me.

I hope everyone who reads this has a safe and happy holiday season doing whatever you like best ♥

thinking cold thoughts

I really do not cope well with summer for a few reasons. I am a warm person. My friends in my office job are all normally freezing around me and I am plenty toasty. I love my winter clothes. I love scarves and mittens. I love crock pot comfort food. I love the crisp clean air. I took this photo on my last proper backpacking winter in Europe extravaganza (this was taken in Cambridge I believe). I miss the cold and the snow. I will be thinking lots of cold thoughts to get me through the scorching hot Australian summer when the temperature picks up. It is not that bad right now (thankfully) January and February are the long hot dry months. Eeek

Cambridge winter!
